  Our club!

The Sturgeon Falls Granite Club was founded in 1955 and is operated mainly by volunteers. Curling in West Nipissing goes way back to the 1920's, when curling was played on natural ice - as you can imagine the season was pretty short.
The present club has 4 sheets of artificial ice and the playing area is heated to just around 0°C.
The curling club is private, incorporated and operates as a non-profit organization and as such you must pay a fee in order to curl in league play. Consult Hours of Operation for our weekly schedule.
An annual meeting is held every April to discuss the affairs of the curling club and to elect a Board of Directors. Feel free to contact any of them if you have any questions or suggestions.

  Membership Certificate

All men and women curlers must must purchase a $100.00 Membership Certificate (minimum $25.00 per year) in order to play in the evening leagues.
The purchase of this certificate will not be required from seniors or a new player for the first year of curling, nonetheless all members are encouraged to purchase a certificate in support of the club.
Only members with certificates can vote at club meetings or become a Director.

  Spares

Spares are needed and welcomed in all weekly leagues. Club members who are not part of teams or leagues can sign up on a spare list and they will be called when needed. Non club members can spare a total of 6 times per year at a cost of $7 per game - they must register at the bar prior to stepping on the ice. This is a good way of introducing new players to the game.

  Training sessions

Formal training and practice sessions can be arranged. A small fee may be charged. Contact the Membership Chairperson for more information.

  Bonspiels

Each year our club hosts 3 major bonspiels which are held from Friday to Sunday. There is a Mixed bonspiel, a Ladies' bonspiel and a Men's bonspiel.
Our bonspiels attract many teams from out of town who come here to compete for fun and for money. Information concerning the bonspiels will be posted at the club.

  Rentals

Lockers are available for rent - contact the Membership chairperson. The club hall is available for rent to the general public. Contact the Entertainment chairperson.
The ice and hall are available for private bonspiels - contact the Entertainment chairperson and organize your own curling tournament - makes a great Christmas or family party.

  Volunteers

As mentioned previously the curling club operates on a mostly volunteer basis. Once you are comfortable in your new club you may want to volunteer to help us out.
You may have an area of expertise which could benefit the club or you may have an area of interest such as Ice or Bonspiel where you would like to help out.
